Chuck McGivern is currently the Associate Director of College Counseling and Upper School English teacher at the Cincinnati Country Day School. Chuck earned a B.A./M.A dual-degree in English and Education from LaSalle University and a M.S.ED. from Temple University. He is currently a member of NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) and ACCIS (Admission Counseling of College Counselors in Independent Schools), which grants him vast opportunities to visit colleges, attend annual conferences, and network with professionals from all over the U.S. For eighteen years in education, Chuck has taught a range of English courses, advised and counseled students and families from 9th to 12 grade, and coached four different varsity sports teams. In 2013, Chuck was the recipient of Cincinnati Country Day’s Pattinson Award, recognized by faculty for excellence in teaching. As a college counselor over the last eight years, Chuck works with students and families to find the right college match, first guiding them with course scheduling and standardized testing, then helping them develop college lists, including how to visit colleges and interview, and finally shepherding them through the college application process, including how to write college essays and interpret financial aid packages.
